The Licensing of Perfusionists in State of Wisconsin
After a long and arduous legislative campaign that can be traced back over two decades, on April 18, 2002, Governor Scott McCallum signed legislation that requires individuals who are practicing perfusion in Wisconsin to be licensed by the state.
From a functional standpoint, it took many months to get the necessary advisory council, applications/exams, and rules/regulations in place. Thus making January 1, 2004, a widely accepted initial date of enforcement. From that date forward, those individuals who are not compliant with Wisconsin’s licensing statute to practice perfusion will be in violation of state statute and are at risk of fine and/or imprisonment.
To learn more about the agency that grants licenses in the state of Wisconsin, you can visit the Department of Regulation & Licensing (DRL) at www.drl.state.wi.us/.
To obtain an application packet for licensure as a perfusionist from the DRL, go to http://drl.wi.gov/dept/forms/form2562.pdf
If you would like to view the details of the Perfusion Licensing Act (otherwise known as 2001 Wisconsin Act 89), it can be located at the following web address – www.legis.state.wi.us/2001/data/acts/01Act89.pdf.
A more “reader friendly” version of the statute can be viewed by accessing the information below - as it existed in the Bill form (also note the two amendments):

I would like to extend a heart-felt thanks to all those individuals who contributed, in any manner, to the success of this legislative campaign. It truly was a team effort! Without each and every one of your contributions, we could not have achieved the success that we are now able to look back upon with an enormous sense of pride and accomplishment.
