Legislative Update

By Michael Gough

Everyone should have received a mailing several weeks ago identifying the legislators for your district.  If you were not able to contact your Senator or Representative before the election, take the results of Tuesday’s election along with some initiative to get to know the people who will be voting on our licensing bill on your behalf.  January 1st will mark the beginning of the new legislative session.  At that time, it will be important to begin talking specifics with your legislator regarding the licensing bill.  Accurate and concise information will be paramount to successfully lobby our position.  Please refer to the web site for continually updated information.  The Legislative Task Force is in the process of putting together an information packet for individuals who plan on inviting their legislators in to see surgery.  The packet will contain a portfolio of information (Perfusion White Paper, Scope of Practice and Clinical Guide to Perfusion) and a clear list of objectives for the host.  If you have any questions regarding facts and figures or are in need of information packets for your legislators, you can contact me through the web site or by pager (414) 222-7446.

I have included a copy of the strategic plan developed by our lobbyist, Jim Tenuta.

As the plan illustrates, we should have a preliminary bill drafted by the middle of November.  After which time we will begin courting the sponsors for our bill.  I can not stress this point enough – now is the time for everyone to get involved with the campaign and more importantly his or her legislators.  The communication of accurate and concise information by you can determine the success or failure of our campaign.
