Approximately one year ago, the WPS Board of Directors formed the Legislative Task Force. One of the functions of the task force is to monitor legislation in the state of Wisconsin that may impact the perfusion profession. The other main purpose is to determine the direction that the WPS will maintain concerning the pursuance of licensure and spear head those efforts- whatever they may be. In order for any of the Class A members to make a decision to the direction the WPS should take, we first need to be educated about all of the facts surrounding such an endeavor.

The initial stage of the task force consisted of an information gathering period and the creation of an educational process for the WPS members. It is now our goal to pass that information on to the members so that they can determine the path which should be taken by the WPS regarding licensure. The following Frequently Asked Questions about licensure will hopefully answer many of the questions that you may have about the topic and also spur discussion on the issue. It is also my plan to deliver an educational presentation about licensure at the Spring Educational Meeting to further clarify details surrounding the subject.

In order to continue to move forward with the issue, whatever direction that may be, a formal vote must be conducted by the WPS Class A members. This vote will be initiated at the Spring Meeting. Any Class A member not in attendance will be mailed a ballot to submit their vote on whether or not to pursue licensure in the state of Wisconsin. It is the WPS's stance that a majority of cast votes will provide an affirmation by the membership to the pursuance of licensure.

I look forward to hearing from everyone about licensure. This is a very critical issue, so please
get involved.
